Sulphitic Farm

About (Biography)

I was born in Rock Hill SC. Near or on mother's Day. My granny always says I was her mother's day gift.  The first Home I remember was in Red River, in Rock Hill. We moved here n there, Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan's island, Lancaster, Back to Rock Hill, Back to Fort Mill for me as a young adult. Back to Rock Hill for a good part of my Life.

Now, I find myself back here in Fort Mill, Caring for my Grandmother after my aunt died. We are on the edge of Grannies family land, with a few of the decendants of the Hensley family. Our land buts up to the homeplace as it's called.

My great uncle Billy ended up with the farm/homestead. He cares for it, but doesn't do much other than raise a few of his horses. I wish he did more, but I am glad he does work to preserve the place. The area is overrun by the new people. That new breed of what I call Facadees. (Fa sod ees) As in facade ( from Merriam Webster - facade 2: a false, superficial, or artificial appearance or effect.) They produce a facade to hide from the world..or maybe to better assimilate with it? You know the types. Drive Lexus SUV's Live in little boxes stacked so close together you can hear the nighbors' cat fart. They've taken over so much of the family land. Wasted it by cutting down every tree they could to pack that one more house in on the land to maximize the profit. With no thought of the people that will ultimately live there. But really does it matter anymore? No one really knows what home is about, do they? It's that place they go to rest away'ish from work. They build their myspace pages talking about how original they are....so original their page is just like the nieghbors page, just different colors, and slightly different words.

My mission here on this land is to learn a new-old way of life. I find it fitting that I come back to my roots. Back on family land, land I played on as a child, lived on , built forts on, played in the creek on......So so long ago. Back to start over, to learn things that maybe I never knew, maybe to remember things I have forgotten. I hope to be able to learn how to sustain myself and maybe a few others on this last acre. Not out of a end of the world way, just a better way to live more in harmony wiht the earth...Something long forgotten these days. My feeling is, that if a family in California can sustain themselves on a tenth of an acre I should be able to sustain myself easily here. Even with a shorter growing season. You should check out the urban homestead. Here's a link to thier site, hope they don't mind! Urban Homestead.com  Those people are awesome and have inspired me to fully embrace what I have wanted to do for such a long time.
